A neighborhood spot with panache. Undeterred by bad weather, we ventured out last night for drinks and dinner at the latest Cedric Maupillier (of Mintwood Place fame) restaurant, Convivial.
A self-appointed “American Café” the menu is an interesting reinvention of traditional French menu items in small, shareable portions (for the record, there is nothing French about sharing food). Choices include fried chicken “coq au vin,” escargots in a blanket, and turkey leg confit, to name a few. The décor is minimal and ultra-modern, and thanks to the tall windows throughout, incorporates the city-scape of the surrounding neighborhood.
Tips: We ordered one “Nibble,” and two of each of the “Cold” and “Hot” menu categories. The portions are not huge (or maybe we were just really hungry), so this seemed to work. Lots of great, exotic options, but don’t overlook the good old bacon cheeseburger, which is dé-li-cieux!
