Who’s ready to sail away into a long weekend?

TBH, I’m not much of a sailor, but one of my go-to wardrobe pieces has always been a marinière (French striped sailor shirt) so needless to say, I was thrilled when my favorite designer Isabel Marant‘s Fall/Winter 2015 collection was all about the nautical look. I immediately fell for these high waisted, buttoned skinny (and sexy) “sailor” pants, especially since I knew that the fabric – a thick cotton – would carry me through multiple seasons. In the fall and winter I wore these pants with booties and warm tops like the Dixon Wool Sweater from the same collection, but now that the sun is finally out, I have more options.

I put this outfit together with a patriotic – red, white and blue – theme in mind in honor of Memorial Day weekend, but the opening of vacation season also seemed like the perfect time to showcase a nautical look. Who doesn’t want to spend some time on a boat, or at least near the water this summer? The details are what make this outfit special, e.g. that bag with tri-color ribbon handles that picks up the three main outfit colors – red, white, and blue – and the bracelet and repurposed necklace that pick up its gold accents. The sky-high mules and oversized sunglasses add a touch of glam to an otherwise casual, weekend-worthy ensemble.

Enjoy the holiday everyone!
