As you may have figured out by now, I’m pretty simple (get it? Because “Simply” Sylvia?) when it comes to dressing. I always try to pick unique, versatile pieces that are not only stylish, but functional.  This poncho from one of my favorite DC based designers, DeNada, is a great example.  I love everything that designer Virginia Arrisueño creates (a boss lady if ever there was one – see her interview here), but this particular piece fits my personality and style to perfection.

I love the edgy, asymmetrical silhouette that’s eye-catching and great for fickle weather days (cold one minute, warm the next). I styled it here for just such a day in Paris, pairing it with leather skinny jeans (my wardrobe go-to in fall and winter) and two iconic French pieces, a striped long sleeved tee (marinière) and beret. I just happened to have the perfect accessories to pull the look together (i.e. this black and white shoulder bag) and a killer pair of white booties.

That said, I have been wearing this piece as both outerwear with ripped skinny jeans and tees on warmer days and an intermediate layer under a cashmere overcoat on chilly ones. It turns out that it’s the perfect piece to throw into your luggage if you’re heading to a chic destination (like say, Paris ;-)).
